Fashion for Life – Just two more days!

With just a few more days to go in this amazing event we are running to catch up with all the special items offered by our designers. As a quilter, i was quickly drawn to the new long coat of crushed velvet by Trill Zapatero of Boho Hobo. While this is very much a modern garment, Trill’s inspiration from the Crazy Quilt traditions of Victorian times is clearly evident. I love the characteristic colours and the decorative stitching so much! It is also not too late to pick up one of her latest funky hats. This one, called Abe’s Hat, is a part of Boho Hobo’s FFL Collection with proceeds going to the fight against cancer.



Trill has also been working on an entirely new path, designing some of the most creative lamps i have seen in SL. you can spot a few in her FFL shop and  watch the entire collection evolve with a short trip to the Sewer beneath the Afghanistan Museum! Yes, the SEWER, really! Is there no end to this woman’s creativity?

This is an amazing kimono to reduce to such a ridiculously low price. This entire post features skins by Hush, so i must complement them on their Paige and Amy skins available at FFL. Worn with the kimono in the first picture you see the sweetness of the Sugar skin shade. This ensemble in teal by Schoen called Klita is both edgy and feminine and emphasized nicely by the tone of the cream set off with the striking pink lips of the Hush skin. Vanity Hair has done some special hair for FFL and always specially cutting edge. When i put this outfit together with the lace jacket and saw this hair with the teal highlights i thought “why not!” I love how the braid curves around the neck and the flourish of the pompadour of the Nightingale in Jet black definitely sends a message that you are going to “sing” when you go out on the town and into the nightlife. The MEB ensemble is interesting too with the big silver buttons across the breast give a urban appeal and the lace jacket keeps it feminine.

Finally i finish with the steaming hot cocoa skin tone from Hush also available at the FFL. Appropriate skin to wear with a dress named Aphrodite from SYSY’s. Aphrodite was the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and it was a pleasure to be able to add the items from Ecletica to this look. The Little Black Pillbox set includes the veiled hat that is menu driven to allow feathers and pearl accents. The gloves are textured so wonderfully and were a perfect match to SYSY’s Aphrodite dress. We all know what a difficult thing it is to match up hair for hats, but Tabata of Vanity hair has made this wonderful hair named Romance for FFL that works so well to fit this outfit!

Fashion for Life – Part 1

‘Fashion for Life’ is the longest running and most successful fashion fair in Second Life ™ and marks the annual start of the official ‘Relay for Life’ events that take place inworld each year. All donations are given directly to the ‘Relay for Life’ general fund which benefits the ‘American Cancer Society’ and its thousands of beneficiaries who rely on the charity for support and advice. Over 200 designers and creators have come together for this event with all organisation, building work and coordination driven by the work of volunteers  to maximize the donated money.

We can’t begin to cover all of the  work of this dedicated team but, we can share some highlights which we have found particularly attractive and encourage you to join these creators making this the most successful charity event is SL history.



Miamai is offering an amazing selection of lovely designs for this year’s event. Kym is wearing the Loue Dress in red, one of the many dazzling colors available. The match-dyed peacock feathers add a special touch to the softly feminine lines of this vintage inspired gown. In this thoroughly FFL look she is also showing the lovely Paige Cherry Blossom Skin in the Honey shade, new from Hush Skins just for this event. Hush includes some wonderful lashes with their skin package. And check out the closeup for one of the It’s Time Earring sets offered as Gatcha by Aurora Borealis.

Next we have Kym, All Squared Away  in one of the outfits offered by Fantavatar & Moonstruck, a brand which has been focused on fantasy and theme roleplay clothes and props since 2008. With a stretch into a more modern and playful look especially for FFL their line is expanding to include more hair and shoes as well as furniture. Note also another lovely skin option from Hush; the Amy Sultry Sage in Cream shade, and another of Aurora Borealis’ It’s Time Gatcha Earring sets.

And of course we expected SL’s latest fashion event to include lots of new mesh designs. ArisAris steps up to that challenge with their Chocolate Balloon Dress, a finely detailed knit which comes in all sizes. The strappy Virginia Tan  heels are also from ArisAris and, I couldn’t resist the Amy Tangerine Kiss skin from Hush in a most appropriate Cocoa Shade

If you have been following our blog, even casually, for a while you are probably aware of our abiding love for vintage fashion. And, so many of the favorite eras of fashion history featured special hats. One of my favorite quotes on hats…

With or without the optional veil, the “Ode to Miss Peele” fedora is a perfect accessory to complete a typical forties look and would also be a striking add for that special dress you been eyeing for the first spring garden party.

Seq has accused me of seeking the title of Fedora Queen since both of my very favorites from Chi’s new collection have a “fedorian” heritage. (is that even a word? we will pretend it is.) I can handle that! Indeed the Salt Fedora, with it’s extended brim and fine textures, seems to have a bit of regal mystery to it, whether worn with a vintage thirties dress, as i did here, or with a crisply tailored modern pants suit. I know that I’ll be exploring a variety of potential matches for these two designs, and heading back to Couture Chapeau for another helping of Couture Chapeau magic.

KITES Collection Part 1

STARRY Night –
Sequins and pin pleated chiffon combine artfully to make the Starry Nights gown a memorable standout look for your most special event. In RL this would be so very perfect to wear for my harp concerts but, SL provides a fantasy opportunity to imagine i could be an actual chanteuse — as long as i just pose with the microphone and don’t really try to sing!



The bold Black and White combination also seems just right for an evening at your favorite piano bar – whether you are performing or just there for a quiet drink with friends and an elegant dance or two. Speaking of bold – how perfect is tosy Xue’s Blessing Jewelry set from WTG with this gown!

AYO Cocktail Dress -
And for pure fun – mix one part Little Black Dress with one part Little Red Car! Meiling’s Ayo Cocktail dress inspired me to jump in the Ferrari and zip up the coast to that little seafood place in Malibu. This is a delightfully crisp and flexible ensemble with an optional sleeveless jacket, and just the right feminine frills and bows, with a bit of a breeze in from the ocean giving those loose wisps of hair a bit of a carefree look. Carry the theme of casual elegance right through with the strappy look of SLink’s Tiger Heels.

MANZA Wrap –
When Diane von Furstenburg splashed her wrap dresses onto the fashion scene in the 70s she launched an enduring favorite concept. Meiling’s latest build on this foundation, the Manza Wrap dress, takes shape with the distinctive prints and solid linens and underlines the whole notion of the wrap by using the two different fabrics. Light and comfortable, while stunningly fashion forward, this was one of my first picks from the Kites collection. Finesmith’s oversize hoops in coral and Kagami graphic bracelet work really well for that late afternoon shopping trip that flows right to cocktails and dinner uptown. And the Felicia Capped Stiletto from SLink are just perfectly matched to that look.

Flirty to elegant . . . and beyond

Oh to be in Paris in the springtime!!!
Cabin fever got the best of us for a bit, but with the Ides of March and bikini season soon approaching it is time have a Caesar salad and do a bit of holiday catch-up…not “ketchup”, ewww that would taste terrible on the salad. Anyway… Let’s begin our trip back in time with a visit to Paris Metro! I have always found Rose’s designs to be most innovative, so very wearable and well matched to the way we move. She has consistently brought fresh approaches to SL fashion in the line of her designs, as well as her choice of fabrics and fine textures.



I just love the subtle animal print she chose for the Tu An Animal Panther Cocktail dress. That big cat’s eyes seem just right with the flirty off-the-shoulder look of this little dress. The long sheer gloves, from the same fabric as the bodice overlay, are a perfect accent. I’ve just added the Ruby Pepite earrings from Orage Couture’s 2010 Christmas Collection and matching Sydney Stiletto’s from SLink and let my hair go appropriately loose with the new Darilynn from Damselfly.

Changing the mood a bit from flirty to elegant, the Arabian Magic gown from Paris Metro is the perfect choice for that most formal evening with someone special. Once again Rose has followd the inspiration of the most amazing gold embellished fabric to highlight the daring lines of her seductive and sophisticated design. Tosy Xue’s incredibly intricate Plume Jewelry Collection compliments this look so well. And, of course, pulling my hair back with Amacci’s Rona updo adds the finishing touch.

Sometimes elegance comes in softly! As in the case of the Flower Flamingo Gown, one of Paris Metro’s latest releases. Dreamy and like floating on a cloud, this gown is perfect for dancing in the moonlight whether on the aft deck of a cruise ship or barefoot on your favorite beach. And once again tosy Xue delivers the perfect jewelry to capture the subtle reflections of that moonlight in his fabulous Luce Della Notte Scura set.

Yes there is even more! Yet another example of her magical creative skills with diverse materials, Rose combined a a seductively flared top with a soft leather corset and  the sheerest float of a long skirt in her aptly named Leather & Sheer Gown. What a delightful and unexpected combination! My new Hearts Aflame jewelry ensemble from Chop Zuey seemed to be just the right match.

Vintage and Retro – Always in Style!

Things have seemed relatively quiet around Ivalde since the big flurry of activity around the Advent Gifts. The store has had a bit of a face lift, and Neferia is beginning to release some stunning designs inspired, as always, from her meticulous study of period fashion. She surprised us in the bleak mid-winter, with a look to spring and a delightful little Fifties frock – the Roseann –  in a  fresh bouquet of pastel chiffon.Just the thing to brighten your spirits while waiting for the snow to melt! Sequoia took one look and went to work designing a matching jewelry set. Her Roseann Floral Pearls are available at Aurora Borealis, just across the island from Ivalde.

From the Sixties back we go to the Thirties with an exquisitely detailed dress named in honor of Gina Ventris, the winner of the recent Black Magic Styling Competition**. The Gina combines a rich deep velvet full skirt with a subtle floral-patterned silk top and matching bow at the low cut back. While clearly this gown reflects a high fashion thirties origin, it is equally appropriate for that special evening at SL’s trendiest ballrooms.
