Vintage A-wear-ness

Dinner on the Fjord

Thirties fashions have a special allure with even the day dresses drawing the line, detail and embellishment we might expect for more formal attire. Neferia Abel’s “Kahrine” — her latest 1930 inspired dress, reflects that refined styling of the era so very well with the tailored bodice tucks, box pleated skirt and detailed embroidery.

Could it be . . . Sandra Dee?

The “Nora” Dress, the newest addition to Ivalde’s extensive 1950′s Collection is already a hit among our Vintage Fashionistas, and may just prove to be even more popular than the recently retired “Sandy” poodle skirt. It’s all about lace and gathered chiffon and I knew right away that the violet pink color would be my personal favorite. I couldn’t help humming a few tunes from “Grease” as I matched up my kymmie shoes from Lindy in anticipation of a fun fifties evening at Runaround Sue’s.

Fashion For Life – 55L Friday and more!

Just outside Kyoto

Special event running at Fashion for Life today only, Friday March 16th, is the 55L Friday Sale. Many designers have discounted many of their items to only 55L. Some like Schön have made an exclusive item to sell for just today!!! The “Sei” [White] Kimono gown is just that, only 55L! and exclusive! This is an amazing kimono to reduce to such a ridiculously low price. As a designer i do understand though, we want to offer our best to get you to come see all the wonderful things we have made especially as donations to Relay for Life, so come see and grab some bargains while helping the American Cancer Society find the cure.

Song of a Nightingale

This entire post features skins by Hush, so i must complement them on their Paige and Amy skins available at FFL. Worn with the kimono in the first picture you see the sweetness of the Sugar skin shade. This ensemble in teal by Schoen called Klita is both edgy and feminine and emphasized nicely by the tone of the cream set off with the striking pink lips of the Hush skin. Vanity Hair has done some special hair for FFL and always specially cutting edge. When i put this outfit together with the lace jacket and saw this hair with the teal highlights i thought “why not!” I love how the braid curves around the neck and the flourish of the pompadour of the Nightingale in Jet black definitely sends a message that you are going to “sing” when you go out on the town and into the nightlife. The MEB ensemble is interesting too with the big silver buttons across the breast give a urban appeal and the lace jacket keeps it feminine.

Aphrodite Enchanting

Finally i finish with the steaming hot cocoa skin tone from Hush also available at the FFL. Appropriate skin to wear with a dress named Aphrodite from SYSY’s. Aphrodite was the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and it was a pleasure to be able to add the items from Ecletica to this look. The Little Black Pillbox set includes the veiled hat that is menu driven to allow feathers and pearl accents. The gloves are textured so wonderfully and were a perfect match to SYSY’s Aphrodite dress. We all know what a difficult thing it is to match up hair for hats, but Tabata of Vanity hair has made this wonderful hair named Romance for FFL that works so well to fit this outfit!

Flirty to elegant . . . and beyond

Cocktails in the Garden

Oh to be in Paris in the springtime!!!
Cabin fever got the best of us for a bit, but with the Ides of March and bikini season soon approaching it is time have a Caesar salad and do a bit of holiday catch-up…not “ketchup”, ewww that would taste terrible on the salad. Anyway… Let’s begin our trip back in time with a visit to Paris Metro! I have always found Rose’s designs to be most innovative, so very wearable and well matched to the way we move. She has consistently brought fresh approaches to SL fashion in the line of her designs, as well as her choice of fabrics and fine textures.

Cocktails in the Garden

I just love the subtle animal print she chose for the Tu An Animal Panther Cocktail dress. That big cat’s eyes seem just right with the flirty off-the-shoulder look of this little dress. The long sheer gloves, from the same fabric as the bodice overlay, are a perfect accent. I’ve just added the Ruby Pepite earrings from Orage Couture’s 2010 Christmas Collection and matching Sydney Stiletto’s from SLink and let my hair go appropriately loose with the new Darilynn from Damselfly.

Blue Magic

Changing the mood a bit from flirty to elegant, the Arabian Magic gown from Paris Metro is the perfect choice for that most formal evening with someone special. Once again Rose has followd the inspiration of the most amazing gold embellished fabric to highlight the daring lines of her seductive and sophisticated design. Tosy Xue’s incredibly intricate Plume Jewelry Collection compliments this look so well. And, of course, pulling my hair back with Amacci’s Rona updo adds the finishing touch.

In the Misty Moonlight . . .

Sometimes elegance comes in softly! As in the case of the Flower Flamingo Gown, one of Paris Metro’s latest releases. Dreamy and like floating on a cloud, this gown is perfect for dancing in the moonlight whether on the aft deck of a cruise ship or barefoot on your favorite beach. And once again tosy Xue delivers the perfect jewelry to capture the subtle reflections of that moonlight in his fabulous Luce Della Notte Scura set.

Dusk in the wood

Yes there is even more! Yet another example of her magical creative skills with diverse materials, Rose combined a a seductively flared top with a soft leather corset and  the sheerest float of a long skirt in her aptly named Leather & Sheer Gown. What a delightful and unexpected combination! My new Hearts Aflame jewelry ensemble from Chop Zuey seemed to be just the right match.
I hope you have enjoyed our little excursion to Paris Metro, be sure to wave to Rose when you pop over :) emmm popovers, wonders if i should be writing about such yummy designs when i am so hungry?

Sea Breeze

Sea Breeze

Late Afternoon the shadows are long and i am thinking of what a grand day this has been. This New Silk Handerchief Skirt, Double Coin Belt & Racerback top from Boho Hobo kept me cool and comfortable all day. This day of whimsy found me weaving my way to Evie’s Closet where i found this sweet freshly woven garland wreath that fit the mood and outfit so perfectly. So easily it would be to lay below a tree reading a book of poetry and wake transported to some English countryside of bygone days. Right now captured in the moment i wish time would stand still.

Angel’s Black Box Secret

The Angel D. Surprise! *

Each Wednesday Angel Dessous offers a very special ensemble to their group members for a mere $69L! The fun part is that the ensemble is offered as a Black Box with unknown surprise contents. I always race home to open the Box and sometimes discover, as in this weeks Box, a lovely gown complete with hat and gloves, or sometimes a special day dress and sometimes one of Angel Dessous’ incredible lingerie ensembles. I have been buying these boxes since the start of the tradition and each surprise has been very special. The deep rich color of the Madeleine Gown and the detailed floral and lace trim work are typical of the exquisite styling in Angel Dessous offerings. It is always refreshing to discover designers who believes it is important to showcase their best efforts in their group gifts and specials. Thank you Nando and Gina!

Peachtree Southern Style

MW 1930s Styling Challenge - KymSara Rayna

Model’s Workshop is a wonderful gift to Second Life Fashion, an organization that promotes continuing education of models and photographers and a forum for the exchange of ideas. I have attended a few of the Photography workshops over time and enjoy the Monday evening chats sis coordinates. I had not necessarily considered and maybe I should more often, joining the Model’s Worshop Styling Challenge held on Wednesday evenings.

When I saw the announcement that the weekly challenge was a 1930′s theme, Neferia Abel’s latest release from Ivalde immediately came to mind. The Elvira Gown has such a refined gentility and I thought it might be a nice excursion into sharing something I have become quite familiar with styling. I was both honored and amazed at the end of the evening when the voting was concluded, that I won the styling challenge! It is always a treat to share Neferia’s designs.

Being from the south, I grew up to the stories of the well mannered and fashionable southern society. As I prepared, I was paused to ponder the many period photos I had seen of the ladies of Atlanta lined up in their fashionable post antebellum southern style along Peachtree and Forsyth Streets, anxiously awaiting the premiere of Gone with the Wind at Loew’s Grand Theater. That was 1939 and knew the Elvira Gown would suit the definitive look I had in mind.

As I explained to the Model’s Workshop audience, during the 30′s ladies from the south were letting their hair flow while “y’all up nawth were lopping it off” into finger curls. We also were still so very fond of our millinery, a woman of refinement would not be caught dead without a suitable hat for the occasion. However lovely we looked, there were the occasional gusty days no hatpin was large enough to keep our hats from also being “gone with the wind”.

MW 1930s Styling Challenge - KymSara Rayna(Close)

I just had to include the Emma hat, which matched both the era and my vision for the ladies of Atlanta 1930′s outfit and went extremely well with the flowing curls of the Bettie hairdo from Analog Dog. Sadly this particular piece of fine millinery from Elegance Hats is no longer available in Second Life. The good news is that one of the fine makers of vintage shoes, Enkythings, continues to offer a myriad of designs. The Sulaco open toe style shoes are a perfect depression era look and the Clara Pearl set in Golden picked up at +Aurora Borealis+ completed the ensemble beautifully. Thank you to all who attended and voted this ensemble the best styled of the evening. Y’all come back now ya hear!

….You Make My Heart Sing!

Chillin' at the Cascades

It’s officially Summer, and time to find that perfect swimsuit! We’ve been watching our waists, counting our pixel intake. Now we get to show off our sexy curvaceous shape in high style! Swaffette Firefly has created some extraordinary sets for the beach and poolside, including her wonderful new line of Wild Thing Swimwear from SF Design. Each suit comes with a matching sarong which intensifies the vibrant colors patterned exquisitely in an animal skin. All of the color selections are tempting , i finally decided on the pink in snakeskin. That settled, i knew exactly where to turn for accessories – where else but Finesmith?

Chillin' at the Cascades

I faced a wide selection of possibilities from Yula’s myriad of incredible designs. I couldn’t narrow to one set so decided on pieces from a couple of different Finesmith series – the earrings are from the Leah Inspiration Set, while the bracelets i like best come from The Idioma Series – both are colour change and menu adjustable. And of course would feel naked without my nails so i added Finesmith Rave nails to finish the look. I recently picked up a few summery shoes at a new store to me, SHOEnique. The have some really unique and comfortably stylish designs worth a trip to see. I chose the Sea Shell Wedges which not only looked just right ,but have a name to match for any beach or swim suit destination.

Hello Dolly!

Neferia Abel, designer of Ivalde Vintage Fashion and L`Abel has such incredible designs inspired by her personal research of fashion photography, magazines & films, patterns and fabrics from nearly every fashion era since the birth of Haute Couture. There has been a flow exquisite pieces from several historic periods in fashion history since the Ivalde sim was rebuilt to reflect the comfortable surroundings of her native Norway, and we are delighted to share some of these fabulous designs with you. Let us take you now on a journey from Disco to Go-Go.

Hello Dolly!

First up on our itinerary Sequoia is wearing a lovely silk dress that is already destined to become a season favorite for 2011. The Dolly dress is inspired by the shimmery glam disco dresses of the eighties with a timeless attractiveness that will keep it in the spotlight well into the future. This figure hugging gown communicates a sexy sublime elegance, with only the minimal need for further accessoriies.

Ivalde Toril

The Toril Pantsuit from the 70 decade, is a unique period design that can be dressed up or down, depending on your mood and the occasion. Sequoia has chosen a more alluringly sophisticated approach, coming in hot, hot, hot coiffed in her fiery copper Maryam hair from CaTwA and her scorching SEDUCTION XtremeHeel “Galaxy” sandal heels from N-Core.

Ivalde Toril

One of Ivalde’s all-time favorite suits, the Joan, inspired by stlized office wear of the eighties, is back again with a fresh update.
