Satin & Lace

Satin & Lace

‘Tis the stuff of dreams; satin and lace! Mohna Lisa has elevated both in her Thread Bare Silk Gown, a swirl of a fantasy from Mohna Lisa Couture.

At once elegant and seductive the Noir ~ Thread Bare Silk Gown exploits the finest textures of both materials to reveal just enough, and suggest what remains delicately covered. Whether moving in candlelight or runway light this delightful design reflects the most subtle illumination and suggests that there is more to learn about the woman who wears it!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Taupe

52 Week Color Challenge - Taupe (close)

Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge for this week was indeed a challenge. So maybe i should start with the accessories this week. Seq introduced me to WTG by tosy Xue this week, I am so enjoying discovering his jewelry designs, so much so that I selected the elegant choker set from his Papillon collection. The choice of hair was also easy adding the Dax from PurpleMoon fit perfectly to the flow. All of it became easy once i managed to settle on something Taupe. It seems that Taupe is definitely in the eye of the beholder! The posts to Luna this week have drawn quite a spectrum of tones. Even a quick search of my own inventory resulted in a myriad of reasonable variations of the grey-brown color. But, since nothing in there really inspired me, it was time once again to go exploring (clever euphemism for “SHOPPING!”)

52 Week Color Challenge - Taupe

Like most my expeditions (sic), lo and behold i found something perfect! Tres Beau’s Phe gown, designed from the sheerest of silk, creates the most delicate Taupe tones in even the softest light. And, it seems especially well suited for those special softly lit occasions! The deeper brownish tone of the patterned sheer panels of the skirt and soft cowl are accented with subtle grey hues of the opaque skirt panels creating a balance of form and curve throughout the true taupe swirl. The Boogie Nights strappy heels, from Norman Maroon of FM Shoes, are a super match to the contrasting pattern lines of the gown and look comfortable enough to keep you dancing all night long bathed in the soft glow radiating from your true loves face.~kym

Grand Entrance

Rebecca's Dream

“Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again”, a Hitchcock reference which may be a bit obscure and mysterious to many, but there is no mystery as to where all eyes will be drawn when you make your grand entrance dressed in the new “Rebecca” designed by Bree Flanagan. “Rebecca” is one of the many exciting gowns in the recent release from Bella Donna. Perhaps even young Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, dreamed thoughts of entering the grand ballroom, announced at the top of the stairs and descending slowly to the dance floor, wearing such a scorching hot gown. Certainly such fantasy would have kept her warm as she snuggled under her quilt on a cold winter night. Bree brings this fanciful dream to reality. Yards of satin flowing dramatically from the strapless bodice to the elegant train of this sophisticated design, the “Rebecca” is definitely worthy of your most special occasion this season.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Indigo

Mood Indigo

We continue to work our way through the Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge box of Crayola’s, can’t you just smell the paraffin? How fitting that this week we feature a gown from the Edwardian era, which just so happens to be the time period when crayons were invented. A delightful match, for this weeks color Indigo, was found at Ivalde Vintage Fashion. The Trifidr gown is bold in blue textures, accented with eye-catching floral patterns in a sea of deep rich Indigo, the skirt moves with a wonderful flow. A stroll along the avenue or a garden i might be able to make do without my parasol, but a lady is never without her hat. There was no doubt in my mind that i would find the perfect hat to coordinate with this gown at Hatpins, where Reghan Straaf’s period designs offer a tantalizing array of choices. So many choices. in fact, it is always difficult to visit and to come away with only one hat, i settled on two, and chose her Lady Effie for this ensemble. I love to wear Cameo jewelry with this era styling. This set from Second Mirage is unfortunately, no longer available. I have it on good authority though, that a certain jewelry artist, who is my sister and shares this blog with me (not that i am naming any names), might be persuaded to add custom cameos to her line! Would that be so amazing?! ~kym

Blooming Bella Donna

I could have danced all night

Having a few winter blahs? Bree Flanigan of Bella Donna has just released an new lineup of amazing gowns that will paint your world in bright and colorful way. Several, including my personal favorite – the Lizbet – are designed using the most lovely silk florals. The lightness of the off-the-shoulder sleeves and the cutaway overskirt emphasize the natural flow of the floral coloration and Bree has extended this theme with a delicate spray of silk blooms at the waist. I love those moments when you remember an accessory somewhere you did not buy and then come across a dress that seems perfectly suited for it. I have had my eye on the sweet petal set, Idioma, at Finesmith jewelry for a while and the neckline and color of the Lizbet sent me straight over to buy this elegant set. (it featrues color change gem and background so you will see it again, I am sure!) I am also rather excited about this new Emma skin from Tuli and the delightful makeup options included. Don’t be surprised to see several of the options in future posts.

Speaking of the future stay tuned for Seq’s favorite gown from the new Bella Donna collection in a day or so! ~kym

Supper Club Sparkle

Elie Dress

Those of you who know me are aware of my love for vintage styles. When i spotted the Elie dress at PurpleMoon it seemed to me reminiscent of the wide flared skirts of Mom’s era. Updated with a thoroughly modern, glittery, print fabric Poulet Kohlenkamp has come up with a very special creation which is just perfect for supper at the club, with a bit of dancing after. I love that she has maintained the vintage flavor with the contrasting sash at the bodice and the floral shoulder bow. The Audrey earrings from Aurora Borealis Jewelry (ABJ) add to the sparkle of this lovely ensemble.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Sienna

Sedona Star (1) - Color Challenge Sienna

Can you believe we are already into week ten of Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge ? This week’s color, Sienna, reminded me of a visit to Sedona, Arizona and the incredibly vibrant hues at the end of the day as the last rays of sunshine basked across desert canyon. That vision was so powerful it provided me inspiration for another of my loves, quilting. My Sedona Star quilt, shown here in background, is a pixel version of the sewn version i created of lush fabrics in my other life. I digress, but not entirely, because i want you to understand my fascination with fabrics, color and texture, and how they all work in harmony, is certainly important when choosing what i am drawn to blog.

Once again Neferia Abel offers up the perfect design! Her luscious velvet Nadine gown, from the Ivalde 1930 Collection, captures the light as dramatically as those canyon walls but, with a softer more intimate glow. The contours of this gown while straight from the fashion pages of the thirties, are oppulently appropriate for the most fashionable event of 2011. ~kym

Ivalde designs always offer just the right special touch and this fabulous plaid outfit from the L`Abel collection is no exception. The crisp tailoring of Neferia Abel’s Karola suit is the perfect compliment to our crisp winter weather. I am ready to face those winds with my Prestige boots from Bax and smart wool “Tailored” Fedora from Tres Beau.

The bold fabric pattern of this new gray and black plaid suit inspired me to design a new set of jewelry. The Precious set is available now until January 10th for 50% off at Aurora Borealis Jewelry (ABJ). Tango in the PurpleMoon Light

Tango (3)

The incredible sweater in the Tango ensemble by Poulet Koenkamp, of PurpleMoon, is more than enough to convince me to add this outfit to my wardrobe! The dreamy folds of Alpaca wool must make it the softest, snuggliest sweater on the grid. It may be worn in the full version or a shorter length to compliment the high waist wool pants. The name “Tango” by itself carries a bit of an air of sensual mystery and attitude. I added my kicky BeeBee ankle boots, and the sassy little fedora that comes with the ensemble, and jumped the train to the city, “where all the lights are low.”~kym
