For Fabulous Ensemble … Add Baiastice, Sprinkle Generously with L’accessoires

Sis is sophisticated too!

Shopping opportunities abound this month! Not only are we enjoying the grand opening of the new unique shopping experience L’acessoires, but Vintage Fair 2012 is also in full swing. Sequoia was thrilled to find the perfect jewelry set at L’accessoires from PurpleMoon – Venice 16 Stones – to match her new Vintage Fair “Origami Suit” from Baiastice. Of course she had to pick up the fatpack of the Santigold, those fabulous pumps in mesh also in the Baiastice booth at the fair.

Midnight in the City

Midnight in the City

“It was a dark night, in a city that knows how to keep it’s secrets . . .” A visit to Chicago 1920’s always makes me think of Garrison Keillor’s opening line for his Guy Noir tales. And a visit to this sim needs a very special standout gown. Introducing Augusta Creations. New to our blog Augusta Fride offers some most lovely designs. With this visit to Chicago in mind I settled easily on her elegant Marlene gown in gold. Soft and flowing, with daring eye-catching reveals, large soft bows and ruffles it is a perfect choice for a twenties event or a sophisticated current gala. The new Romance Hair from Vanity Hair is also just right for either era. I added my favorite long Zelda pearls from Aurora Borealis, and the brilliant La Fleur Nails and Bracelet from WTG and was ready for the adventure!

Retro is back . . . hmmm is that redundant?

Fab 50's Barbies!

It seems that recently some of our favorite designers have been picking up inspiration from past decades. We even saw a great new sim, Spyderville, spring up with a completely fifties theme. That’s where we found these groovy Barbie boxes. Sadly, it is disappearing almost as quickly as it rezzed. But the timeless styles of the era continue. Neferia Abel continues to amaze us with her fastidious study of vintage era fashions, and her finely crafted vintage dresses. Sequoia is wearing one of her favorites, the Katinka, a recent addition to the Ivalde Fifties Collection. Kym is showing a brand new offering, the ChaCha dress, from PurpleMoon’s Vintage collection. With all crinolines and florals these designs capture the fashion spirit of the 1950’s, but can also be perfectly compatible with a trendy summer party today.

Barbies - Outta the box!

I’d call your special attention to the fabulous NEW Blossoms Earring & Bangle set, which Seq made for me to go with this special dress.! It is available at Aurora Borealis. (Mention my name :))

And, with yet another echo from the fabulous fifties set in 1958 the film and play, “Grease” . . . PurpleMoon’s Sandy Dress. A sure hit at the drive-in or your favorite dance venue, or an evening cruise down Sunset Strip with the top down on the cherry red Corvette! Just to show how this lovely vintage offering can work for a current look, I’ve accessorized with jewelry from Finesmith and a most trendy pair of Fay’s Shoes’s Roxanne strappy heels!

This could get Meshie!

Mesh Mini

While so many other designers are struggling with the basics of the mesh, Poulet Koenkamp of PurpleMoon is already leading out in some innovative exploitation of this new fashion potential. My favorite advantage is the death of the mini skirt coverage prim. It seemed forever impossible that we would have the solution for a perfect seamless match up in pattern and texture we can have with mesh! I have had my struggles, like others, of acceptance of mesh, but mesh in the right hands is really bringing my opinion full circle. A really good example of this is PurpleMoon’s new selection of Urban Mini Dresses. I love the fit and no fussing or body adjustment was needed! I matched it up with one of my Nena sets from Aurora Borealis and off i went. Oh did i mention the Nena sets are all on sale now for only 123 lindens at the Aurora Borealis Four Season Plaza store. That’s more than 50% off!

Fresh Mesh!

Among Poulet’s delightful mesh offerings in this latest release is the Lyn Cocktail Dress. More than a simple mesh design, the luscious tone-on-tone fabric choice and contrasting accents and details give this new dress a fine quality look. I loved finding that the latest hunt offerings from Aurora Borealis – the Woven Leather Bangles and the Gold Filigree Cuff – are so nicely matched too! And a visit to Designer’s Warehouse to discover Fay’s wonderful new Roxanne Shoes made the outfit (and my day) complete!

Fashion for Life – Part 1

‘Fashion for Life’ is the longest running and most successful fashion fair in Second Life ™ and marks the annual start of the official ‘Relay for Life’ events that take place inworld each year. All donations are given directly to the ‘Relay for Life’ general fund which benefits the ‘American Cancer Society’ and its thousands of beneficiaries who rely on the charity for support and advice. Over 200 designers and creators have come together for this event with all organisation, building work and coordination driven by the work of volunteers  to maximize the donated money.

We can’t begin to cover all of the  work of this dedicated team but, we can share some highlights which we have found particularly attractive and encourage you to join these creators making this the most successful charity event is SL history.

Loue Loue

Miamai is offering an amazing selection of lovely designs for this year’s event. Kym is wearing the Loue Dress in red, one of the many dazzling colors available. The match-dyed peacock feathers add a special touch to the softly feminine lines of this vintage inspired gown. And check out the closeup for one of the It’s Time Earring sets offered as Gatcha by Aurora Borealis.

With a stretch into a more modern and playful look especially for FFL their line is expanding to include more hair and shoes as well as furniture. Note also another lovely Aurora Borealis’ It’s Time Gatcha Earring set.

and not just any hat!

Meet me at the Fitz!

If you have been following our blog, even casually, for a while you are probably aware of our abiding love for vintage fashion. And, so many of the favorite eras of fashion history featured special hats. One of my favorite quotes on hats…

“A hat is a flag, a shield, a bit of armor, and the badge of femininity. A hat is the difference between wearing clothes and wearing a costume; it’s the difference between being dressed and being dressed up; it’s the difference between looking adequate and looking your best. A hat is to be stylish in, to glow under, to flirt beneath, to make all others seem jealous over, and to make all men feel masculine about. A piece of magic is a hat.” – Martha Sliter

One of SL’s magic makers of hats, Chigadee London of Couture Chapeau has just released a fresh line of very special hats, sure to delight vintage fashionistas as well as those with more contemporary tastes.

With or without the optional veil, the “Ode to Miss Peele” fedora is a perfect accessory to complete a typical forties look and would also be a striking add for that special dress you been eyeing for the first spring garden party.

My New(est) Chapeau!

Seq has accused me of seeking the title of Fedora Queen since both of my very favorites from Chi’s new collection have a “fedorian” heritage. (is that even a word? we will pretend it is.) I can handle that! Indeed the Salt Fedora, with it’s extended brim and fine textures, seems to have a bit of regal mystery to it, whether worn with a vintage thirties dress, as i did here, or with a crisply tailored modern pants suit. I know that I’ll be exploring a variety of potential matches for these two designs, and heading back to Couture Chapeau for another helping of Couture Chapeau magic.

Dreaming of Spring!

Things have seemed relatively quiet around Ivalde since the big flurry of activity around the Advent Gifts. The store has had a bit of a face lift, and Neferia is beginning to release some stunning designs inspired, as always, from her meticulous study of period fashion. She surprised us in the bleak mid-winter, with a look to spring and a delightful little Fifties frock – the Roseann –  in a  fresh bouquet of pastel chiffon.Just the thing to brighten your spirits while waiting for the snow to melt! Sequoia took one look and went to work designing a matching jewelry set. Her Roseann Floral Pearls are available at Aurora Borealis, just across the island from Ivalde.

Sixties in Sequins

The latest addition to the Sixties Collection at Ivalde is the Elsa, a sillouette-hugging, sequinned cocktail dress with the classic stand up collar. Available in six jewel tone colors, this stunning number is turning heads at SL’s popular jazz clubs.

The Upstairs Room

From the Sixties back we go to the Thirties with an exquisitely detailed dress named in honor of Gina Ventris, the winner of the recent Black Magic Styling Competition**. The Gina combines a rich deep velvet full skirt with a subtle floral-patterned silk top and matching bow at the low cut back. While clearly this gown reflects a high fashion thirties origin, it is equally appropriate for that special evening at SL’s trendiest ballrooms.

Catch the train for more Meiling

So lovely in Balandra in the fall

Meiling’s Collection, Last Train to San Fernando, inspired by the Johnny Duncan tune from the late 50’s, is amazing in the post modern minimalist sense…her designs are incredibly sophisticated while maintaining a certain simplicity. This collection covers the spectrum of style for the modern day active woman while paying homage to the past of the traveling, forward thinking adventurer ready to meet challenges of the fashion frontier. Today we will show some of the cotton, chiffon and silk outfits, then tomorrow expand into the gingham and plaids of this wonderfully rich collection.

So lovely in Balandra in the fall
The Balandra
Very clever pattern work and tatting are revealed upon close look at this fabulous ensemble. The detail is exceptional considering the shape and silhouette maintain a very uncomplicated and unquestionably flattering contour to move with your body. Perhaps the most notable thing to appreciate about a ‘deceptively simple’ Meiling outfit is that she has given a lot of thought to creating separate options which allow the wearer the freedom to style in a way that suits their own personality.

I selected an accent set of my Vintage Beads in Argyle green from my designs at +Aurora Borealis+ to add with some of my favorite Cassandra Heels from SLink for a kicky overall look that could go anywhere from an early fall jaunt to the flower show or to the city for a shopping outing with your best friend and still have enough sass to meet that special someone for a midnight opening of a new wave art performance.

Dawn @ Macaripe

Dawn at Macaripe
Kym grabbed this lovely little chiffon top immediately when we were reviewing the collection! Which was no surprise to me because Meiling said herself, when she showed me a preview, that she fully expected that Kym would look fabulous in it. As a separate, this piece could be matched nicely with a dark skirt or trousers or, as she has done here, with a pair of lace trimmed tights for a more dressed up look.

Dawn @ Macaripe

Near the time of the Meiling collection release, tosy Xue also had a new release of his amazing Drops-S jewelry set from WTG — a perfectly delightful accent to the soft flowing lines to the Dawn at Macaripe.

Your Path is Red!

Your Path is Red
From the upturned collar to the lace-up bodice to the billows of silk of the skirt it’s all about the RED! The Your Path is Red really doesn’t need a whole lot of explanation it just is! Any woman will definitely be immediately the focus of attention when making her entrance in this stunning dress!

Your Path is Red!

The stylishly tossed coiffure, Folie d’Ete-Soil, from Vanity Hair and a bit of contrasting accent color from my Rainbow Bangles from +Aurora Borealis+ add just the right spice to this fiery mix.

It's Tea Time!

Tea & Crumpets
With deep folds and a crisp linen flare Meiling’s Tea Time Stop handkerchief skirt is just the right look for that mid-afternoon garden gathering. Topped with the soft pastel Crumpets & Cream Blouse the ensemble is set off brilliantly with a bold satin sash in flowery orange. Kym looks fresh and delectably sassy, as she heads off to meet her dear friends for afternoon Tea.

It's Tea Time!

Shoe designer and friend, Delinda Abbott, has created some wonderful flexibility in her Lindy Modern and Retro Shoes. The Kymmie pumps, strong name resemblance to the wearer is no coincidence :), offers color change of all prims which allowed her to easily pick up the colors of the Tea & Crumpets outfit for a head to toe complete look. This is one train you won’t want to miss…

Last train to San Fernando, last train to San Fernando
If you miss the one, you’ll never get another one
Bee-dee-dee-dee-bom-bom to San Fernando.

Peachtree Southern Style

MW 1930s Styling Challenge - KymSara Rayna

Model’s Workshop is a wonderful gift to Second Life Fashion, an organization that promotes continuing education of models and photographers and a forum for the exchange of ideas. I have attended a few of the Photography workshops over time and enjoy the Monday evening chats sis coordinates. I had not necessarily considered and maybe I should more often, joining the Model’s Worshop Styling Challenge held on Wednesday evenings.

When I saw the announcement that the weekly challenge was a 1930’s theme, Neferia Abel’s latest release from Ivalde immediately came to mind. The Elvira Gown has such a refined gentility and I thought it might be a nice excursion into sharing something I have become quite familiar with styling. I was both honored and amazed at the end of the evening when the voting was concluded, that I won the styling challenge! It is always a treat to share Neferia’s designs.

Being from the south, I grew up to the stories of the well mannered and fashionable southern society. As I prepared, I was paused to ponder the many period photos I had seen of the ladies of Atlanta lined up in their fashionable post antebellum southern style along Peachtree and Forsyth Streets, anxiously awaiting the premiere of Gone with the Wind at Loew’s Grand Theater. That was 1939 and knew the Elvira Gown would suit the definitive look I had in mind.

As I explained to the Model’s Workshop audience, during the 30’s ladies from the south were letting their hair flow while “y’all up nawth were lopping it off” into finger curls. We also were still so very fond of our millinery, a woman of refinement would not be caught dead without a suitable hat for the occasion. However lovely we looked, there were the occasional gusty days no hatpin was large enough to keep our hats from also being “gone with the wind”.

MW 1930s Styling Challenge - KymSara Rayna(Close)

I just had to include the Emma hat, which matched both the era and my vision for the ladies of Atlanta 1930’s outfit and went extremely well with the flowing curls of the Bettie hairdo from Analog Dog. Sadly this particular piece of fine millinery from Elegance Hats is no longer available in Second Life. The good news is that one of the fine makers of vintage shoes, Enkythings, continues to offer a myriad of designs. The Sulaco open toe style shoes are a perfect depression era look and the Clara Pearl set in Golden picked up at +Aurora Borealis+ completed the ensemble beautifully. Thank you to all who attended and voted this ensemble the best styled of the evening. Y’all come back now ya hear!

Summertime and the Livin’ Is Easy…

Summer Cream

Neferia Abel has released the very popular and much anticipated Part Two of the L`Abel Country Chic Collection to an very enthusiastic response. We are excited to be able to showcase a few of our favorites. The Country Chic Collection Part Two continues the theme set in the first collection of comfortable cotton cool summery fashion with a definitive southern country chic flavor. A full selection of separates and outfits which can be interchanged is sure to have something to suit both your fancy and your taste.

Summer Cream

Sequoia has chosen a few favorties to share. The crisp cream colored July Lace top, paired with the color matched Lana Cream leggings is a fresh and stylish casual outfit – perfect for most everyday summer activity including jaunts to town or a picnic at the lake.

Justa Dasha Raspberry!

For a slightly more dressy look you could pair up the Raspberry Dasha Tunic with the tailored Alicia white pants, a look that inspired her latest +Aurora Borealis+ jewelry creation — The Baccara set available now at the Designer Showcase.

Justa Dasha Raspberry!

KymSara’s favorite outfit from the new collection is definitely the Ella dress with matching bloomers. Feeling and looking every bit the southern country girl that she is, she strolls the colourful summer gardens of Ivalde comfortably cool in the cotton lace couture of the Ella outfit. Kym’s G Field Lace Up boots not only match well but are easy on her feet as she steps over the uneven terrain and with the summer heat bringing her hair off her neck was easy with a fresh new hair style – Cocomin, from LaLa Moon.

Summertime, and the livin' is easy . . .

Yes, its summertime and the livin’ is easy at L`Abel. Y’all come on down and see us real soon now, ya hear.
