Meiling Presents Spring Surprises!

Meiling Presents SPRING!

After what seemed like a very long wait, I think spring has come at last! I have really enjoyed discovering all the freshness of the spring offerings from our creative SL designers. Today’s post features a few of my favorites; Meiling Couture and Lindy’s Modern & Retro Shoes. It also features a most lovely new sim with the most photographable spring venues. The Noble Storybook sim is inspired by the Beatrice Potter book series and, as you wander about there, you will spot many of her easily recognizable characters from these tales. Meiling’s RL and SL designs always reflect her natural appreciation of the female figure providing adornment for the wearer, rather than treating her as merely a display mannequin for the clothes. Thus her designs are comfortable, easy to wear and naturally attractive. I have also discovered that I can always find the perfect shoes to complete the look at Lindy’s. Both of these fine designers pay meticulous attention to detail, color and texture. In this first look I have paired Meiling’s Claro strapless dress with Lindy’s new Peyton cork platform pumps.

Meiling Presents SPRING!

Meiling frequently incorporates little surprise touches in her designs. The Mundo Halter dress, for example, in addition to the detailed collar embroidery, features a feminine bodice surround, which gracefully compliments the surprising bare back. Lindy’s new Kaelyn platform heels in black patent compliment this dressy look perfectly!

For a early evening stroll on the beach after that special dinner on the patio, what could be better than Meiling’s colorful Gru-Gru Halter mini? This little number is going with me right into summer in a variety of fun patterns and colors. And I must point out that these colors are so easy to match in Lindy’s Wynne shoes, using her wonderful color matching HUD.

Meiling Presents SPRING!

Just a short walk up from The Noble Storybook beach is this stone path through the fresh ferns and flowery glen. What a delightful and peaceful place this is! And what a delightful creation is the new Irois Frill dress from Meiling’s spring collection. You will find your favorite color in this cool and fluttery, tiered design. I was similarly delighted to find Lindy’s new Bradye platform sandals such a great match to the red I selected.

Silk and glitter glam for fall!

Red Heat from Meiling

My friend Alvaro writes from Europe that “Red is the new black for this season’s fashion.” I am all for it! And, Meiling echoes the thought from Trinidad-Tobago with this delightful Red Heat Gown, her latest mesh release from Meiling Couture. The sloping hemline reminds me of the 40/50s flair and the floral accent below the waist is an interesting feature as well. Adding a bit of a modern touch with some of my favorite Finesmith gold jewelry and my new Jolie heels from Ncore (with dots!) and I am delighted to be on trend for fall! And fall is lovely in the Kingdom of Alurel! You really must visit for a stroll among the leaves.

All silk & glitter

How many times do we hear that fashion maxim: “Less is more!” I think Meiling understands that concept very well. She has chosen a most lovely silk for this crisp little La Boucan Cocktail Dress, adding the black floral collar for just the right touch of formal, freeing us up to add whatever glamming feels good. I couldn’t resist Yula’s latest Mind Eye Décor from Finesmith Jewelry and Tosy’s brand new Jeweled F+ nails from WTG Jewelry. And of course Fay’s Krystal Shoes are perfect for a finishing touch. O yes, I’ve got the blues going on now, and I mean that in a most positive way!

Meiling and CC Celebrate Independence — 24 hours collection

Whiskey Sours in Afrika

A lot happened over at the Vade Mecum sim this weekend. RL designer Meiling and her friend and SL collaborator Chigadee London were celebrating their country of Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th year of Independence! If you rush over you might still be able to take advantage of the special 50% off sale on Couture Chapeau hats before Chigs sends them back to full price. Kym and i saw that the colours of the leaves were changing and beginning to fall on our walk between the stores so, we slipped into what are nicely transitional summer to autumn shades to showcase from Meiling’s 24 hours collection.

The 24 hours Collection is all about fun with fashion. Little unexpected touches and whimsical texture and fabric choices give these designs a special appeal. Sequoia chose the contrasting layered look of the Meet Me in Afrika Gingham Dress topping it off with new hat from Couture Chapeau. Kymsara found the asymmetric cut of the Whiskey Sours Blouse & Skirt to be just the right look for a fun evening at the Beach Club. And once again we both grabbed for the box of Tosy’s latest jewelry – “Mid-Summer Enesmble.” It was just too difficult to decide which outfit was best with this jewelry sooo, we compromised and both wore it! What a nice way to celebrate!

Blues from London to St. Louis

Starlight Blue

Life was so busy this summer and we couldn’t quite make it to London in RL for the debut of Meiling’s 24 Hours Collection but, we have thoroughly enjoyed reviewing the SL counterparts to this fabulous collection. Meiling has embraced the mesh media in designing these new outfits and the results are enchanting. Sequoia is showing the Starlight Blue Lace Dress with the matching lace Dress Pants, an eye-catching combination, further enhanced by the addition of the new Sails Jewelry ensemble from Tosy Xue of WTG Jewelry. Scarlett Heels from Kalnins finish the look with an especially unique and elegant touch.

Jolie Bleue

Meet me in St.Louis? KymSara found some especially fun accessories to add an almost playful touch to her choice of Meiling’s Jolie Bleue Top and Skirt. She looks so adorable in the oversize Bold Ribbon hairbow from NYU, which seems a perfect accent along with the geometrically sculpted Plated Cuff Bracelet from GOTZSCHE. Both of these pieces are from the debut selections at L’accessoires. The styling is cute and timeless, but definitely hints at bygone days of summers at the World’s Fair. So why St. Louis you say, well it’s the home of the Blues and also the setting for the movie “Meet Me in St. Louis”, and in these blue hues you will really “Skip to My Lou” singing the Blues!

Summertime . . .

Summer time . . .

Don’t you just love the summer colors! It seems as though everywhere you turn something is blooming or becoming ripe for the harvest. Earlier in the summer season Meiling released a set of the most colorful little Mesh Sundresses and to keep the spirit of the season alive now would be a good time to bring them out. Perfect for a casual stroll among garden or the farmer’s market and just the inspiration to shop about for some eye catching accessories you’ve been seeing around the grid. Seq has added Tosy Xue’s ‘Rainbow, Rainbow’ sunglasses (which have the cutest animation to push them up and bring them back down) and she was so inspired that she handcrafted a set of matching earrings and bangles.

Kym chose Meiling’s Raymou Sundress and added her Butterfly Sunglasses from GoS. These glasses also have a clever little animation which uses a spray can to change the frame color. Her Canary Pomp Earrings and Bracelet go so well with this dress but are sadly no longer available since Ganked has left SL. Kym is also showing her Maya Hair, a summer release from Damselfly. You may have noticed that Damselfly hair shows up quite often in Kym’s shots, and you will probably be seeing even more as additional exciting styles exploiting the best features of both mesh and flexi are released.

Meiling goes to London! A Major Hit!

O so many colours!

While we are huddled round our TV’s cheering on the gymnasts, swimmers, divers and all the other incredible athletes at the Summer Olympics there are other very noteworthy events happening in London. Today there was a showcase of a few specially handpicked Caribbean designers at the Olympics and SL’s own Meiling previewed her latest collection there in RL! Of course before Meiling became “SL’s own” she was a major star in the RL fashion galaxy. She has come to love Second Life and actually released the SL version of this new “24 Hours Collection” before she left for London! Previews of what has not even hit the big runways of RL; dont you just love SL! Here are a few of the delightful outfits that wowed the audience at the Olympic exhibit.

Beautifully executed in mesh, the stunningly colorful Harlequin gown will definitely be a standout ensemble at the `Fashion Engage’ Olympic Showcase and the season’s gala events in SL.

Denim goes to town

Meiling has a distinctively unique approach to utilizing unusual fabrics in unexpected combinations in her designs. Her new Moonglow Denim Skirt and Blouse ensemble shows that signature style beautifully. This outfit is available in both mesh and flexi skirt versions. I love the look of Lindy’s terrific Kitten Heels with this skirt!

More Meiling and More . . . well, MORE!

Morning blooms afresh . . .

What a thoroughly Classic White Shirt from Meiling Couture, the latest mesh offering from one of our very favorite designers! The Caribbean based designer continues to bring her fabulous RL designs to us in SL. This is one of a series of new mesh Shirts, all showing her signature surprise back details. I thought Poulet’s soft flowing “Groovy Long Skirt” from PurpleMoon was just the perfect match with this outfit, which I have finished with the equally soft look of the Marie hair from D!va.

Spring is a time for NEWness!

Meiling has a brought us a fabulous fresh new spring wrap dress; the Victoria! Her previous wrap dress was such a huge hit! Especially in SL and I think this one will be as well. Don’t you just love those wonderful serendipitous occasions when designers minds converge? Yula Finesmith released her amazing Enlightened Ensemble on the same day for a great match. I really loved being able to match my new Nora shoes from Fay to finish the look. Spring seems to be all about ‘new and soft’ and I am discovering more lovely hair designs for spring at D!va Hair. We hope that everyone pays attention to our stylecards to see the pose makers we work with. So often the spotlight is shown almost exclusively on the fashions, we want to acknowledge these talented designers who help us so much to show the looks with the proper attitude and grace. These particular poses are from Morgane Batista’s Pose Shop and will be debuted during the upcoming Pose Expo, later this month.

Raindrops Keep Falling

Raindrops keep falling . . .

The Kites Collection from Meiling Couture gets a new addition this week with the introduction of the Raindrop Spring Dress. Freshness abounds in the lines and gathering of the peplum waistline. The shoulders are sheer and flowing to the wrist tied off at the wrist and above the elbow by the cutest bows. The fabric and colour reminds one of the subtle prismatic colour variations of blue end of the spectrum following the curves fluidly. Meiling always has something new to share, which is why she was invited to show her collection at London Fashion Week in RL. Since I can’t make it to London I am thinking Trinidad might be a great destination. One thing is for sure this is my new favorite from Meiling.

Catch the train for more Meiling

So lovely in Balandra in the fall

Meiling’s Collection, Last Train to San Fernando, inspired by the Johnny Duncan tune from the late 50’s, is amazing in the post modern minimalist sense…her designs are incredibly sophisticated while maintaining a certain simplicity. This collection covers the spectrum of style for the modern day active woman while paying homage to the past of the traveling, forward thinking adventurer ready to meet challenges of the fashion frontier. Today we will show some of the cotton, chiffon and silk outfits, then tomorrow expand into the gingham and plaids of this wonderfully rich collection.

So lovely in Balandra in the fall
The Balandra
Very clever pattern work and tatting are revealed upon close look at this fabulous ensemble. The detail is exceptional considering the shape and silhouette maintain a very uncomplicated and unquestionably flattering contour to move with your body. Perhaps the most notable thing to appreciate about a ‘deceptively simple’ Meiling outfit is that she has given a lot of thought to creating separate options which allow the wearer the freedom to style in a way that suits their own personality.

I selected an accent set of my Vintage Beads in Argyle green from my designs at +Aurora Borealis+ to add with some of my favorite Cassandra Heels from SLink for a kicky overall look that could go anywhere from an early fall jaunt to the flower show or to the city for a shopping outing with your best friend and still have enough sass to meet that special someone for a midnight opening of a new wave art performance.

Dawn @ Macaripe

Dawn at Macaripe
Kym grabbed this lovely little chiffon top immediately when we were reviewing the collection! Which was no surprise to me because Meiling said herself, when she showed me a preview, that she fully expected that Kym would look fabulous in it. As a separate, this piece could be matched nicely with a dark skirt or trousers or, as she has done here, with a pair of lace trimmed tights for a more dressed up look.

Dawn @ Macaripe

Near the time of the Meiling collection release, tosy Xue also had a new release of his amazing Drops-S jewelry set from WTG — a perfectly delightful accent to the soft flowing lines to the Dawn at Macaripe.

Your Path is Red!

Your Path is Red
From the upturned collar to the lace-up bodice to the billows of silk of the skirt it’s all about the RED! The Your Path is Red really doesn’t need a whole lot of explanation it just is! Any woman will definitely be immediately the focus of attention when making her entrance in this stunning dress!

Your Path is Red!

The stylishly tossed coiffure, Folie d’Ete-Soil, from Vanity Hair and a bit of contrasting accent color from my Rainbow Bangles from +Aurora Borealis+ add just the right spice to this fiery mix.

It's Tea Time!

Tea & Crumpets
With deep folds and a crisp linen flare Meiling’s Tea Time Stop handkerchief skirt is just the right look for that mid-afternoon garden gathering. Topped with the soft pastel Crumpets & Cream Blouse the ensemble is set off brilliantly with a bold satin sash in flowery orange. Kym looks fresh and delectably sassy, as she heads off to meet her dear friends for afternoon Tea.

It's Tea Time!

Shoe designer and friend, Delinda Abbott, has created some wonderful flexibility in her Lindy Modern and Retro Shoes. The Kymmie pumps, strong name resemblance to the wearer is no coincidence :), offers color change of all prims which allowed her to easily pick up the colors of the Tea & Crumpets outfit for a head to toe complete look. This is one train you won’t want to miss…

M as in Mentor, M as in Meiling !

Yay!!! Anya Won!!!! Anya who? won what?

Second Life fashion continues to grow in relevance, more imaginative minds are making their way to share their art and creative force and networking connections are made expanding real life markets. One such influence came from Team Anya, a SL group formed to support a contestant in Lifetime televisions 9th season of Project Runway and lo and behold if she didn’t go out and win!

A week ago, like so many other fashion followers, i was anxiously awaiting the outcome of Project Runway. This season was a bit more personal because of the Second Life connection to the winner, Anya Ayoung-Chee. Anya is from Trinidad & Tobago which is also home to Meiling confidante & SL designer Chigadee London of Couture Chapeau and real life designer Meiling Esau or as she is known in Second Life, Meiling Couturier. Her SL brand, Meiling Couture, was chosen by BOSL magazine as one of the top 5 designer houses in Second Life. Deservedly so! the SL designs are recreations of her real life collections. So… you ask what does that have to do with Anya winning? Well…Meiling has long been a part of Anya’s life long before she was accepted into Project Runway’s 9th Season. Anya described in her own words her relationship with Meiling in an interview with AfroBella.

Interview with Anya Ayoung-Chee of Project Runway, Season 9 | Afrobella

Meiling nurtured Anya’s ambition of being a designer long before Project Runway was a possibility, and she advises her on more than just fashion – Meiling offers expert counsel on life, love, and building a brand. When I told Anya that I think Meiling sees her as more than just a mentee, she agreed. “Meiling is like my mom. I remember sitting in her foyer in 2008 and telling her I wanted to have my own fashion line and she just said — let’s do it. There is no ego or competitiveness there and perhaps from others there would be. She has been supportive to the nth degree.”

A touch of fall in the breeze

To celebrate this momentous occasion over the next days we wanted to share some of Meiling’s most recent releases in Second Life directly inspired by her real life collection ‘Last Train to San Fernando’ beginning with one of the Meiling’s Mavens, KymSara Rayna, wearing Ode to Matura.

A touch of fall in the breeze

CARIBBEAN FASHION STYLE REVIEW

There is a reason why Meiling Esau is named as one of the top Caribbean designers, stands at the head of the local fashion scene in Trinidad and has made an impact outside of the region as well. There is a reason why this designer has lasted more than four decades in the fashion industry, where so many others try to find their footing and either fail or give up. There is a reason why a Meiling fashion show can fill a space to capacity, all for the sake of watching 40-50 outfits walk the runway.

It is seven months into the year of 2011, and Meiling has already shown two full collections – her Macafouchette Carnival collection as well as this current collection entitled ‘Last Train to San Fernando’; she has shown a selection of pieces at San Fernando Fashion Week 2011, stolen the limelight at Caribbean Fashion Week 2011 in Jamaica just last month, and this is before we even begin to list her separate projects working with soca queen Fay Ann Lyons and her annual collaborations with Rapso group 3Canal. No other Caribbean designer works harder, smarter or more consistently than Meiling Esau.– Darcel de Vlugt, Editor-in-Chief of CFstyle
