There is something about a new gown from DESIR Haute Couture that inspires me to seek out a soft breeze along the coast! Vivien Emerald brings us yet another delicately flowing creation in her recently released Patrycja Gown and, once again the detail work is superb from the stand-up pleated collar, to the surprise cascade of orchids at the deeply cut back, and the layers of sheer silk in the full skirt. I chose the gold colour and accented it with the Pearly Shell Jewelry and Nail Ensemble from WTG Jewelry for the candlelight glow of an evening stroll through the birches, and down to the coast line. You will find your favorite among the other delicious pastels available.
On location, at home – The CascadesPerhaps, like me, you’ve always loved wearing a special red dress. Since childhood, when the Red Riding Hood story was a fashion influence, right until today, I think there has always been at least one red dress . . . maybe more . . . in my wardrobe. The Euridice gown from DESIR Haute Couture has definitely moved into a special place for me. Elegant and sensuously soft, it is just the perfect “all grownup” gown for the L’il Red in all of us! And I thought an “Into the Woods” setting might be just right for a shoot today. No Big Bad Wolves at Oubilette but, keep an eye out for that scary troll. Vivien Emerald ushers us into the spring fashion season with a spectacular series of gowns and costumes from DESIR Haute Couture that were designed for candidates in the Miss Virtual World competition. The Ashia Gown is a spectacular, strapless, layered design incorporating both light translucent layers and tone-on-tone silk for a dramatic and yet flowing look.
KymSara chose the noir (black) version of this gown and Sequoia the blanc (white).
Kym really like’s Yula’s innovative creation of a jeweled fascinator headpiece and the NEW Shameless Ensemble available from Finesmith Jewelry.
Sequoia chose a traditional pearl set from WTG called Pearly Shell to complement the Chinese Shena head piece which is included with the dress.
Ebony, Ivory , working together in perfect harmony !
The Sydney Opera House is easily one of he most recognizable architectural designs in the world today. But, the spotlight this week was illuminating quite another set of marvelous designs as Sydney Fashion Week twenty12 rocked the grid with multiple fantastic shows featuring many of SL’s finest designers. These designers really pulled out all the stops to make each of the shows breath-takingly spectacular! As hard as it was to single out one favorite designer — let alone one favorite item — I lost no time making straight for the Desir display following the show featuring Vivien Emerald’s awesome gowns.
I chose her Sydney gown as my pick of the week. Vivien captured the splash of the surf off the coast of the Sydney Harbour with the selection of perfect silks. The Sydney gown is cut to uniquely express the curling waves and fine mist, and Vivien even added a delicate shoulder fastener for the trailing veil, constructed from fine specimens of shells and coral from the Great Barrier Reef, and floating bubbles of sea spray! All in all a simply marvelous creation, which is a dream to wear. Tosy Xue’s Luce della notte scura Earrings, in deep marine blue, and Pearly Shell Nails seemed the perfect choice to continue the oceanic theme.
Some clothes seem to inspire a mood. The new Red Kimono Gift Gown from Desir did just that for me, calling out for a candlelight evening and a special shoot. We have noted here before that Vivien Emerald draws her elegant designs from a broad cultural perspective. With this gown she clearly captures the fabric motif and influence of the broad ties of the traditional Kimono, and then expands her vision to a softly flowing modern gown. The exquisite design is matched with flawless workmanship that we see from the few designers who truly value their group members and always include their best work in their gifts. Yula Finesmith’s Shea jewelry ensemble and Rave Red nails, complete this refined and distinctively feminine look.
Vivien Emerald – of Desir – is not only designing phenomenal gowns, but is creating them specifically to support some very critical and important causes. Her signature cultural awareness is reflected in Athena – her offering for the “Hope for Emilia” program [ View Video Here ]. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, courage, and inspiration, certainly three traits of those who have put forth their effort to help the people of Northern Italy, many thousands who were left homeless after the earthquakes and subsequent aftershocks in late May to early June of this year.
The flaming red color and figure-hugging silhouette of Athena remind us of not only of the lines of ancient Roman dress, but also of the great Italian sirens of the silver screen. Vivien’s homage to the rich heritage of Style Italia helps us stay focused on the objective of providing relief and support for the people of the Emilia-Romagna region. All of the proceeds from sale of this gown and the designs of other participants, you will see stamped with the Hope For Emilia logo, in this and other blogs, will go to directly to the people of Emilia-Romagna. Desir has also participated in this years “Relay for Live” event. Although the event concluded last weekend you still have an opportunity to pick up this gorgeous ebony gown. It is named interestingly enough named Emilia, all proceeeds of this dress however go to the American Red Cross to help find a cure!
This frock with the fabulous flourish of floral can only be found at the Desir Main Store. Make sure you rez properly when you arrive because it is at the main entrance before you enter the store.
I would strongly suggest you make some time to swing by the MANIERA sim before Sunday. MANIERA is hosting a Tribute to Vivienne Westwood Exhibition, as part of their launch as a real life digital publication. The exhibit is a fascinating glimpse into the artistic creations of the amazing British designer – Dame Vivienne Westwood. Now in her 70’s, Westwood still manages to shock and surprise and amazingly has remained at the forefront of fashion design for 40 years. As part of the exhibit, eighteen SL designers were invited to create a tribute piece inspired by Westwood’s work. Of the many exiting and exclusive designs my hands down favorite is Vivien Emerald’s Vivienne Dress. Surprising, in so many ways, pink plaid being just one! The Vivienne dress will certainly get you that wow factor and many will do a double take at the magnificently definitive cut and standout style.
There are just a few day left for the show items on the MANIERA sim. The designer tribute vendors will go away on Sunday 15th, so i suggest you rush over now to grab these unique items in the style of Vivienne Westwood, and while you there be sure to take in the Tribute to Westwood Exhibit [click for limo].
As many of you know i am a real life quilter and i love a variety of textile art, so the other day when a friend told me of a new gown had seen made of Kente cloth i had to go see for myself. Vivien Emerald is a relatively new designer in SL Fashion, her store Désir is one i hope you will take time to go discover for yourself.
Kente cloth is a type of silk and cotton fabric made of interwoven cloth strips and is unique to the people of Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo. Originally it was considered a royal and sacred cloth, worn only at very special occasions. Over time, the use of kente has became more widespread. As more fabric and couture artisans have discovered the rich colours and incredible textures of this fine fabric, we have seen this African craft spread literally around the world.
The Ghana Kente gown from Désir far exceeded my expectations! Vivien has not only managed to capture this exquisite fabric in a glowing texture, but integrated the flavor of original West African design as well. In a visit to her delightful shop you will quickly discover her eclectic tastes and that she has an appreciation for the unique fabrics and traditional designs of many cultures. While these influences are clear, her creative work is thoroughly original. You will definitely be seeing more of her designs in Notions of Style!
