Shall we dance?

Shall we dance?

The latest release from AlaFolie is the darling little Marilyn dress. Reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties flapper outfits, it will have you heading to the nearest vintage club for an evening of dancing and fun. But wait — haven’t we all been a trifle frustrated when we hit the dance floor in that great looking new mesh dress and as soon as we start to dance we expose those invisible bod parts that were vanished in the alpha mask? Pixivor Allen has figured a new technique for mesh designs that does not require using an alpha mask and, will allow you complete motion freedom with no exposure of those icky missing body sections! Yay Pixi!! I am sure we will see additional delightful designs from AlaFolie using this approach, but meanwhile I am thoroughly enjoying the Marilyn. I’d say more but I must run along to the club 🙂

Morning Glories and Violettes

It has been way too long since my last visit to AlaFolie. I was reminded of this when I spotted the AlaFolie shop at Vintage Fair 2012 last week. A look around at the lovely new designs there (and a few purchases later, including this Robe d’ete Violettes) and I was off to the main store! Of course I found some delightful things there too — but I digress. Pixi is doing some great things with mesh. This new dress comes with both mesh and sculpty options for the top, as well as a really pretty babydoll skirt variation. And you will love the variety of prints she has chosen to use with this design. I am always impressed with the lace details in AlaFolie creations. The lace motifs and the way they are integrated into the overall design add just the right delicate touch. Once again I found Lindy’s Kitten Heels to be a most comfortable addition, and a snap to adjust to the perfect color.  And, just down the way at the Vintage Fair I found PurpleMoon’s Coco sunglasses for the finishing touch. A perfect outfit for an early morning stroll around the flowered paths of Second Norway!

Dreams of Clockwork Ponies

I have always been fond of carousels, especially the traditional ones with the authentic carved horses. This charming small carousel is just out back of the AlaFolie main shop and reminds me of a music box belonging to a great aunt, which seemed a bit of a dream maker to me. So naturally I couldn’t resist doing a shoot there with my lovely new Camille dress and Boots Moutarde from AlaFolie. Once again the synthesis of lace and silk in this new dress is just delightful! With a cutaway through the multiple layers that adds a saucy touch while dancing, and a comfortable free feeling while strolling about, this is going to be one of my very favorite go-to dresses. There are two other color variations and, I couldn’t decide among them. Pixi thoughtfully provided a discounted option for indecisive folks like me – so I came home with all three! Watch this space for more pics in the near future! And the boots! What a find! A lot of my AlaFolie dresses have had shoes included in the package so I was aware that Pixi did most lovely footwear. But now the shop includes a special boot selection that will definitely tempt you. My pick of these stiletto heel ankle boots with the side bow is but one of many choices, colours and textures available.

Dreams of Clockwork Ponies

Tosy Xue has just released his “Shark Attack” jewelry ensemble from WTG Jewelry. It seemed a bit fierce when I first opened it but, I really love the detail and the contrast with this dress. We can always count on WTG as a source of the most wonderful and out of the ordinary jewelry!

All That Glitters…Part II

Ala Folie Miss Phillipines, Long with cowl

As you may recall we promised you a peek at the other variations of pixivor Allen’s amazing Miss Phillipines gown, available from Ala Folie. It took us a few days to get back to it, but worth the wait and what fun I had getting them ready!

Ala Folie Miss Phillipines, Long

For the long gown I wore the optional stole to our shoot locale, the home of Lusti Decosta of Decosta Custom Builds. I chose not to add the lovely Fleur attachments with this variation, mostly so that i could better highlight the sensational silouette and detail of the sequinned streamers.

Finesmith Inspiration - Shena

For this particular look the cascade and flow of Yula Finesmith’s Shena Inspiration Set of earrings and necklace seemed to be made to go with the gown. Coincidentally, Yula released her incredible series of Inspiration Jewelry sets just as we were preparing these shoots and i think the combination of the AlaFolie gowns and Finesmith jewelry sets are just magic!

Taylor Inspiration by Finesmith & AlaFolie Miss Phillipines Courte

As i continued to explore the possibilities of the Miss Phillipines gown I found an irresistible set, the Taylor Neckpiece and Bracelet Ensemble! True to the series name, these accessories provided just the right touch of fantasy and inspiration for the presentation of the third variation. If you look real close you will see that i am adorned in the earrings from the Finesmith Rusalka Inspiration set. All of the Finesmith Inspiration Sets are released in a limited edition of 50, so if you are even considering adding them to your fine jewelry case — hurry!

Ten available Finesmith Inspirations and three delightful AlaFolie gown variations the possibilities seem endless. Did we mention there is a black version of the gown called Diamant Noir to be featured in future Notions of Style posts. We know you’ll enjoy these delightful dilemnas as much as we do!

All That Glitters…Part I

AlaFolie - Miss Philippines Gown

I received a fabulous and rather satisfying surprise the other day, one that was eyeopening to say the least!
I am not naturallly drawn to sequins, but when i slipped into the absolutely elegant Miss Philippines gown created by pixivor Allen, I was completely blown away! Instantly transformed, I was feeling every bit of the glamorous starlet with an adoring paparazzi begging for just one more pose.

AlaFolie - Miss Philippines Gown

This beautiful dress from Ala Folie captures your imagination as well as the complete attention of those who will see you wearing it. pixivor has sculpted some very alluring lines; the entire gown, including the flared train, is made from a soft translucent lace with a sequin pattern providing an extremely attractive focus. Both the front and back of this gown and the cross-lacing at the back getting the full sparkle treatment.

The glitz and glamor theme is carried throughout including the optional fleurs with a hint of gold tone giving contrast and additional interest. The flow and movement of the sequined streamers cascading from the shoulder fleur is a very attractive feature i love. The Miss Philippines gown is so attention grabbing it felt right to choose accessories that would add to the total effect without being a distraction. Yula Finesmith’s recently released, and appropriately named, Rissa Delicate Earrings from Finesmith Jewelry seemed the perfect accent to complete this look. “But wait!”, you say “Aren’t there two other exciting variations of this gown?” I guess you will just have to stay tuned 🙂

Que? Sarah Sarah

Back in a flash . . . (close)

AlaFolie’s recent release Sarah is a thoroughly delightful ensemble which seems to be stirring some genuine excitement, and deservedly so, with fashion watchers around the grid. One can immediately detect the enduring influence of Paul Poiret in the overall design. The exquisite silk peplum vest gives Sarah a strong sense of the post war late 40’s flair which was influenced heavily by disciples of the forward thinking Mr. Poiret. The result is astonishing and plays well to illustrate the meticulous work of the designer, pixivor Allen. In addition to the voil skirt/frou pants version i am wearing, the ensemble includes an elegant long skirt, and a variety of choices (with a matching shoulder bag and coordinating shoes) to enable you to put together your favorite look and variation for everyday or that special occasion.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Umber

52 Week Color Challenge - Umber

You may have noticed we took a short break to catch our breath after the Fashion For Life. We spent our entire effort for the almost two weeks showcasing items where 100% of the proceeds went to the Relay for Life. We find it such a worthy effort and were glad to have shared in it.

As a result of our devotion, we are running to catch up with Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge. Thankfully, on a trip to see the perfectly wonderful floral dresses designed by pixivor Allen, i spotted just the right gown to complete our UMBER week challenge! When my eyes fell upon the Lady Chocolat gown i knew i had found a dress that did not just meet the color criteria, but one that rates very high marks as a fave for the season. Miss Allen brings life to the dark brown shade of Umber with the addition of a colorful dotted pattern in the bodice and a brilliant flash of bright orange for the sash, which trails off beautifully, to provide additional contrast the whole length of the flowing skirt. It should also be stated, that in keeping with pixivor’s sensibility and exquisite spot on detail, she finished the bodice with an edging of that same flaming orange. Sheer perfection!

52 Week Color Challenge - Umber

Finding just the perfect jewels to match this AlaFolie gem was a challenge all its own. Julia Merosi, of ::je::suis::, had the answer to that puzzle in her tente sunset set. I bought up the necklace, earrings and bracelets all sold separately to complete this amazing look.

The Hills Are Alive

The hills are alive . . .

With the hills covered with the wildflowers of summer it is time to be outside celebrating the beauties of the season. But wait, you can always make a side trip to pick up that special outfit on the way, right? And AlaFolie has more than one reason for a detour. My pick was the Balcerise, a crisp little sundress with incredible detail at the bodice following the lines of the embroidery, and a crinoline lined skirt, giving it just the right retro touch. And, while they may not be the perfect thing for dancing throught the wildflowers, I couldn’t help matching up with pair of Bare Brigitte heels from Stiletto Moody! Just perfect when you feel like dancing — even among the wildflowers! ~ Kym
